Job Description
Phillips Staffing of Anderson is looking for a Night Shift Supervisor for a reputable company in Piedmont, SC. This is a night shift position: 7pm-7am.
Nature & Scope:
The primary responsibility of this position is to maintain a presence on the production floor to monitor employees, production, and various areas crucial to the safe and efficient manufacturing of quality products. These include, but are not limited to: equipment inspections, pulpers, stock movers, staging areas, molders and packers. Additionally, Production Supervisors are responsible for training new staff, insuring safety standards are met, preparing production reports and assuring company policies are enforced fairly, firmly and consistently.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Must have a high school diploma and or a technical training certification from a vocational/ technical institution.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a production environment.
Minimum 1 year of experience as a Supervisor.
Be computer literate.
Possess a demonstrated ability to understand the importance and value of working with others.
Must be able to read and write English proficiently and accurately to complete required reports.
Job Standards:
Continually inspect all areas under their supervision during the shift.
Prepare reports as required prior to the end of the shift and communicate any concerns or problems to the oncoming shift supervisor.
Conduct performance appraisals in a timely manner.
Ensure the accuracy of all production reports being entered into the system and or submitted to management.
Dominant Physical requirements and essential job functions:
Must be able to communicate instructions & assignments.
Must be able to stand for the entire shift while performing the above outlined duties.
Must be able to safely lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
Work in areas where temperatures are in excess of 100 or below freezing.
Have range of motion to repeatedly get on and off the lift truck
Have range of motion to perform sweeping function.
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Safety is paramount and supervisors are charged with the responsibility of insuring employees adhere to safe working procedures and practices. Also eliminate any unsafe conditions.
- In the absence of upper management, Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of all hourly employees during your shift; this includes production, mold shop, maintenance, warehouse, and outside visitors / contractors as required.
- Report all low inventory of supplies required for production to management.
- Meet with previous shift supervisor and together review production floor conditions to assure all areas have been properly maintained, cleaned etc. Prior to beginning of the next shift. Prepare 5S report of existing conditions and any actions taken to resolve problem areas. 5S report is to be signed by both the outgoing and incoming supervisors and submitted to the production manager.
- Create shift assignment report, update as needed, print out for first responder, and email.
- Verify the previous shift s employees have been relieved from their positions.
- Motivate, challenge and develop associates to achieve a greater degree of performance and effectively utilize labor resources to meet production requirements.
- Develop and promote teamwork by fair treatment of employees & conducting regular meetings.
- Actively participate in all sample runs (new molds, new specifications, modifications, etc.).
- Actively participate in and promote "lean manufacturing", Kaizen, SPC and other manufacturing programs to improve the production environment and throughput.]
- Actively participate in cost controls within their area of responsibility & authority to do so and provide timely and accurate production reports. Examples: machine output, efficiency, manning, non-conforming, etc.
- Complete previous shift s machine efficiency, account for skids produced on previous shift (work order book and warehouse production report).
- Complete all testing requirements. Example: mullen, consistency, freeness, etc.
- Ensure all pumps and waters are properly set and functioning throughout the plant.
- Set up and confirm use of molders database.
- Report any abnormal/excessive machine downtime to Plant Manager.
- Make sure daily instructions are followed.
- Be the liaison between production and mold shop/maintenance for any required action.
- Review the production schedule established by the production scheduler, meet with the previous shift supervisor to determine the status of the current production run. Schedule any changes required and assign personnel to complete changes.
- While mold change is taking place or after completion, confirm all mold change procedures were followed by the machine operators.
- When a mold change is completed print and distribute all accompanying paperwork/labels, confirm product being produced meets specifications, and all packaging material are on hand.
- Inspect the pulping area to assure proper furnish, proper paper usage, chemicals, water etc. Are followed.
- Ensure all shift employees are receiving breaks/lunches in a timely manner.
- Assure that partial pallets are accurately accounted for on the line packer report at the start of the shift for the previous shift.
- Review the staging area for stacking of the same product together, that it is wrapped & labeled properly, and check the finished goods pallets prior to staging. Determine the final total of finished goods from the prior shift.
- Verify forklift inspections and cleanings were completed at the start of the shift. Notify maintenance of any issues with forklifts.
- Non-conforming area checked daily and any corrective actions must be complete as soon as possible.
- Day shift supervisor must collect and input gas readings at 10am daily.
- Inspect the molder area to assure the SOPs are followed, any production problems are addressed, and the machines are running at an optimum efficiency.
- Inspect the packing area to assure jigs (if required) are being used properly and only quality product according to specifications and quality standards is being packed on the correct pallets.
- Ensure jigs are stored appropriately when not in use.
- Track all employee s attendance in the attendance book on a daily basis.
- Accurately create, update, and complete daily shift report, upon completion place shift report in shift envelope.
- Must follow and enforce all company polices. Hold employees accountable through the correct disciplinary actions.
- Actively participate in conflict resolution, if further action is needed refer the situation to human resources.
- Responsible for contacting all appropriate agencies related to any emergencies (fire, medical, etc.)
- Maintain the security of the Plant property.
- Perform evaluations of those under their supervision as well as provide guidance and make training recommendations to the Plant Trainer.
- Attend periodic meetings and training programs as required.
