Machine Shop Supervisor
Job Description
The Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operations within a precision manufacturing environment, ensuring efficient workflow, high-quality output, and team performance. This hands-on leadership role involves managing personnel, coordinating production activities, and driving continuous improvement across machining processes including multi-axis CNC milling, turning, and grinding.Responsible for a team of circa 31 employees, 29 operators, Production Engineer and Maintenance Engineer.

Schedule: Full-Time (minimum 40 hours per week); Monday to Friday (Overtime may be required depending on business needs and this could include weekend work.)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise a team of machine shop operatives and engineers to meet production targets and quality standards.
- Monitor and optimize machine utilization, including proactive maintenance and process improvements.
- Oversee setup and operation of rotor milling and grinding machines, ensuring tooling efficiency and minimal downtime.
- Implement and support continuous improvement initiatives, including on-machine probing and CAD/CAM integration.
- Ensure operators are trained and competent in precision machining techniques.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve technical challenges and align production priorities.
- Coordinate procurement and inventory control to support uninterrupted manufacturing flow.
- Analyze production data and provide insights for cost reduction and process enhancement.
- Maintain compliance with ISO 9001 standards, safety protocols, and customer specifications.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Management, or equivalent experience.
- Proven leadership experience in a machine shop or precision manufacturing setting.
- Strong planning and scheduling skills, with the ability to measure output and address operational issues.
- In-depth knowledge of metal cutting using multi-axis CNC machining (milling, turning, grinding).
- Proficiency with ERP systems, manufacturing software, and CAD/CAM tools.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Results-oriented mindset with a focus on meeting deadlines and driving operational success.
- Move throughout the shop floor and interact with machinery and personnel.
- Occasionally lift and carry parts and materials weighing up to 50 lbs (infrequent).
- Able to inspect CNC Machines which may involve stretching and leaning forward.
- Able to use complete desk-based tasks, using mouse, keyboard and computer screen.
- Work on-site in Spartanburg, SC (must be able to commute or relocate prior to start).
- Flexibility to work extended hours during business-critical situations, including evenings or weekends, as required.
- Strong multitasking skills with the ability to make swift decisions in high-pressure or time-sensitive situations.
